Admission Requirements for Undergraduate Degree Programmes

Candidates who intend to enroll in the University of Dar es Salaam’s undergraduate degree and non-degree programmes must first meet the general minimum admission requirements.

UDSM General Minimum Entry Requirements:

Considered for admission to a first degree programme at the University of Dar es Salaam, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

  • To be eligible for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A.C.S.E.E.), applicants must have a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E.) or equivalent with passes in five approved subjects, three of which must be at Credit level.
  • Furthermore, they must have two principal level passes in appropriate subjects in the A.C.S.E.E. or its equivalent, with a total score from three subjects not less than 5 for Arts programmes and 2 for science-based programmes. This is calculated using the following grade-to-point conversion scale: A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5; and F = 0 points. Principal level passes in Divinity or Islamic Knowledge are not included in the calculation.
  • An acceptable equivalent diploma of at least a second class/credit level or B grade received from a NACTE-registered college and authorized by the UDSM Senate. The prerequisite for Diplomas categorized into Upper and Lower classes is an Upper Second class or B+ average.
    Note: Applicants from countries with an 8-4-4 school system must finish at least one year of study at a university in their home country before being considered for admission to the University of DaresSalaam.

Entry Requirements:

  • A minimum score of 100 on the Mature Age Entry Examination (MAEE), with at least 50 in Paper I and 50 in Paper II. The MAEE program offers a pathway to admission for exceptionally well-qualified Tanzanian applicants who aspire to pursue a first degree at the University of Dar es Salaam but do not meet the University’s Direct or Equivalent entry requirements.
  • To be eligible for the MAEE program, applicants must be at least 25 years old by August 1st of the year they seek admission.Applicants must have completed the Certificate of Secondary Education Examination or Form VI at least five years before September 1st of the year they seek admission.
