Position: Intern – Youth Grassroot Community Leadership

Location: Masasi, Tanzania

WWF Tanzania works on a variety of environmental issues, such as forest and marine conservation, freshwater protection, wildlife preservation, and climate resilience. Some of its major initiatives include the conservation of endangered species such as elephants, rhinos, and marine turtles, the protection of key landscapes such as the Selous Game Reserve and the Rufiji-Mafia-Kilwa seascape, and the promotion of community-based conservation. The organization also focuses on sustainable livelihoods, empowering locals to manage natural resources responsibly while benefiting economically.

WWF Tanzania provides internship opportunities in Youth Grassroot Community Leadership to encourage young people to take an active role in environmental conservation and sustainable development. These internships offer hands-on experience working with local communities, raising conservation awareness, and leading grassroots initiatives. Interns learn leadership, communication, and project management skills while helping to implement real-world environmental solutions and community engagement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Organizing and facilitating youth leadership and capacity-building workshops.
  • Coaching youth leaders on communication, leadership, and project management.
  • Organizing Learning Circle meetings to share ideas and challenges among youth leaders.Planning community meetings to promote collaboration and peer learning
  • Assisted in the development of tools to monitor and evaluate the program.
  • Increasing youth participation in conservation and advocacy events like Earth Hour and Biodiversity Day.
  • Documenting program success stories, writing reports, and creating video content.
  • Facilitating online events like the Global Youth Meeting (GYM) and helping to design program content
  • Developing collaborations with youth networks, NGOs, and local organizations

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, social sciences, environmental studies, or another related field.
  • Previous experience working with youth groups or community-based organizations.
  • Experience leading youth groups or facilitating trainings
  • Fundamental understanding of social media strategy and digital communication.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in both English and Kiswahili (written and spoken).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning, organization, and reporting skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Being creative, adaptable, and proactive
  • A strong interest in environmental conservation and sustainability.
  • affiliation with youth networks is an added advantage.
