Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Finance Officer will carry out finance, accounting, compliance, internal control, and risk management responsibilities in accordance with Americares processes and regulations.
  • in charge of the general financial management of the country office budget, as well as sub-grant administration in Tanzania.
  • The Finance Officer will oversee the utilisation of financial resources, expenditures, and the creation of monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Lead the financial reports and reconciliation.

Within the first 90 days, the Finance Officer is expected to:

  • Provide clear, organised financial reports to support leadership decision-making and help align the budget with strategic goals.
  • Review and evaluate current financial systems, reporting processes, and internal controls to identify potential for improvement.
  • Learn and live Americares ideals.
  • Develop good working relationships with the headquarters finance team, Tanzania executives, and key stakeholders within the organisation.
  • Take responsibility for the monthly close and financial reporting process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

In the first 6 months, the Finance Officer is expected to:

  • Review and validate sub-grantee expenditure before submitting it for approval.
  • Get acquainted with accounting software, budget templates, and reporting tools.
  • Lead a budget reforecasting and reallocation effort to reflect project reality.
  • Lead the planning phase for the forthcoming yearly budget, coordinating input from several departments.
  • Conduct a review session with the Country Director and Headquarters to evaluate accomplishments, problems, and priorities for the next six months.

Job Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, as well as at least 8 years of experience as a certified public accountant. Masters is an added advantage.
  • At least six years of expertise managing money and accounting for donor-funded initiatives.
  • Exceptional honesty and decision-making that is consistent with ethical leadership.
  • Experience in management and auditing
  • Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Financial Edge, or other accounting and financial software or ERP systems
  • Competence with Office 365, including Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Willingness and capacity to travel at least two weeks per month
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to create connections across sectors and cultures.
