Position: Extension Officer

Location: Kilimanjaro

In Tanzania, TBL under AB InBev manufactures and distributes brands such as Safari Lager, Kilimanjaro Lager, Castle Lite, and Balimi, along with international favorites like Budweiser. These products are brewed locally in several plants across the country, including in Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, and Mbeya. AB InBev has invested in expanding production capacity and upgrading facilities, contributing to local employment and economic growth while also supporting local farmers through barley and sorghum sourcing initiatives.

AB InBev’s presence in Tanzania extends beyond business. The company engages in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, such as environmental sustainability, responsible drinking campaigns, and community support programs. It has also focused on water stewardship and energy efficiency in its operations. Purpose

The key purpose of this role is to ensure constant barley and sorghum production to meet the mandate of the business.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely mobilization, recruitment, and registration of farmers for barley and sorghum growing
  • Ensure that timely land preparation, planting, weeding, harvesting is carried out as per recommended practice
  • Ensure soil, moisture conservation and crop rotation practices are observed and carried out by farmers
  • Ensure that only pure seed supplied by NBL is planted by farmers and at the correct seed rate and NOT any other
  • Identify the acreage and corresponding quantities of inputs that will suffice your area of operation
  • Ensure that herbicide, fungicide, and insecticides are applied at the correct time, correct rate
  • Monitor the crop throughout the entire growth period
  • In case of any abnormality e.g., disease occurrence, insect infestation then advises farmers on proper and timely corrective measures to be done
  • Promote adaption of Machinery i.e., threshers and planters use among barley/sorghum farmers
  • Dissemination of new farming technologies to farmers
  • Assist in the recovery of the costs of inputs advanced to farmers
  • Coach farmers to manage farming as a business
  • Keep a database tracking seed distribution, seed uptake, actual planted acreage and actual crop yield
  • Timely monthly reporting of Sustainability goal activities

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Hons in Agronomy or related field with field crops experience
  • Experience in managing agronomic operations
  • Experience in working with commercial and small holder farmers
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an agronomy /agronomist related environment
  • Fluency in English
  • Drivers license
