Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in incident investigations and the creation of formal reports on results.
  • Manage environmental regulatory compliance for all plant and mine operations.
  • Ensure that environmental management initiatives, programs, processes, trainings, work practices, and controls are implemented and evaluated for efficacy and continuous improvement.
  • To carry out approved environmental corrective actions to avert future occurrences.
  • To gather, analyse, and keep accurate environmental records.
  • Conduct frequent plant inspections to help the HSE Manager with environmental compliance.
  • Create and deliver environmental information and training packages.
  • Participate in DCLT HSE meetings and provide training as appropriate.
  • Monitor and oversee contractor activities related to environmental performance.
  • To ensure that proposed mitigation actions are implemented in accordance with the EIA and EA.
  • Produce environmental reports for management as needed.
  • Compile annual environmental monitoring and compliance reports.

Job Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science or equivalent, plus other professional skills in the field.
  • Five or more years of experience in environmental functions.
  • Certification/license from NEMC or another recognised HSE agency (Certified Environmental Expert will be advantageous).
  • A good understanding of ISO 14001:2015 will be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the cement manufacturing industry will provide a benefit.
  • Fluent in English and Swahili languages.
